Captain’s Blog

Dear Members and Guests of CGC,

Firstly a big thank you to all of you who came out and supported Steve as he finished his Captaincy by putting out (eventually) and then having to watch me smash my drive a whopping 101 metres!

By my own high standards of organisation I have got off to a slow start by forgetting the cheese and biscuits for the weekend players twice in the first five weeks but I’m getting into the swing of things now and for the past two weeks there has been a choice of mild or mature cheddar which seems to have gone down well (fussy lot those Sunday boys).

Can I take this opportunity to thank Alan Stone and Tony Capocci who have both stepped down from their roles as President and Golf Competitions Secretary.

Both of them have been faithful servants to the club for many years and I’m sure we all wish them well with their retirement.

Kevin O Donoghue has stepped down from the Committee to concentrate on looking after me ( Vice Captain) and his other role of Club Secretary.

Our immediate past Captain Steve Durman and Jonathan Margrave are both welcome additions to our golfing committee and will work alongside Terry Rymer.

Finally we welcome Bryan Sinden as our new President.  Bryan took over from Alan at our AGM having covered many roles and duties for the club since he joined in 1974, becoming a Committee member in 1977.

Thank you to all the past and current Committee members and I look forward to working with you over this coming season.

Captain and Vice remain unbeaten, we have only had one match but does that really matter?

We ran out 5&4 winners.  I won’t say who they were but they are a Father and Son partnership and their surname rhythms with Cundy! (Sorry chaps)

First round of the Gordon Forester and we were drawn against one of last years finalist Cheshunt.

Past and Present Captains Durman and Lovney along with Gordon Forester Captain Gary Knight and Mark Arkell pulled off a great result by winning home and away by a combined sixteen points.  Well done boys, bring on round two!

Please let Kevin or I have any pictures you take on or off the course so that we can add them to the home page.  Ideally we would like to update all the images on a monthly basis.  COBS that includes you please.

Just like last year’s Captain and Vice, Kevin and I are pretty organised so here are some dates to place in your diary.  If I give them to you this early in the season and you can’t make it then you definitely don’t like me.

Sunday December 13th – Christmas Dinner, 3pm, spaces still available so see Kevin, Bryan or I and we will put your name down.

Saturday December 19th – Christmas Quiz, your host is Bryan Sinden, teams of six though we aren’t that strict, again limited spaces available.  Let Kevin, Bryan or me know if you want to get involved.

Moving into 2016

Our New Year’s Party is Saturday January 23rd, 8 till late, ( Yes Steve we are having a DJ ).  Tickets on sale now from Kevin or myself £10 each.

Friday March 4th is our presentation night, always a popular night but please try and make the effort for the winners, it’s always nice to pick up a trophy in front of a full house.

Captains home day ( Sunday July 3rd), Captains away day ( Friday August 5th) and next years Dinner and dance is again being hosted by Theydon Bois GC ( October 8th).

That’s it for now, let me know if there’s anything you guys would like included in future blogs and we will try and accommodate them.

Thank you
Captain Paul
