Saunders Trophy regained

John Hall reports from the course about Chingford’s great performance in this year’s Saunders Trophy:

a big thanks to all the members that volunteered to represent Chingford G C today against our neighbours Royal Epping.

An inspired team effort from all the pairings ensured an overwhelming victory of 323 points to 292. Special mentions to Rob (played out his skin) McGowan, Mike “4 pointer” Steele and Mike Johnson, with a career best gross 79 and an amazing 50+ stableford points. This had a few REGC members jokingly reaching for the the handicaps app!

As usual the match was played in great spirit with weather to match. I’ll pass on a big thanks from everyone involved to Epping captain Steve Woods and his team for hosting us afterwards for a few beers etc.

Thanks again.

The scores were:

Wilson & McGowan-51
Hall & Steele-46
Arkell & M Johnson-51
Knight & O’Donogheue-46
Durman & Alvey-44
D Johnson & Loveny-40
Hobley & Major-45
