Captain’s Spring Blog

Dear Members,

My year as Club Captain is now in full swing and already we are entering its second quarter, time does go fast in this role but I’m really enjoying it.

First up can I introduce Daniel Greenwood as a new member to our Golf Club.

On behalf of everyone at Chingford Golf Club can I take this opportunity to welcome you to our close knit club Daniel and I look forward to playing a round of golf with you soon.

The Captain and Vice challenges are going pretty well, we have won more than we have lost but only just!

Kevin and I are trying our hardest to play everyone in between other commitments and club competitions but we will make sure we play everyone before the years out.

The 2015 Winter Eclectic was a close run thing and it produced much interest, Greg Harper ran out a worthy winner with a very creditable net score of 48.

Well done Greg and thank you to Jon Margrave for coming up with the idea to keep us focused throughout the cold months.

Congratulations to the COB’s team who brushed aside Epping GC (Coopersale) in the first round of the Essex Seniors by 9 points to 2.
Captained by Kevin and Greg it’s obvious from the score you picked a team that all played their part.

Special thanks to Keith Burns who, having moved to the Essex Coast quite recently, still travelled the 60 miles to help the team to victory.
Good luck in the next round gents.

The good news continues in the Clapham Common Shield, better known as the Public Courses.

Despite none of us noticing the format had reverted back to twelve players instead of eight until the morning of our match, our team captain Peter Lawrence rallied his troops and orchestrated a superb win over Risebridge by more than 20 points.

Can I personally thank the guys who jumped in literally last minute, Simon Bell, Gary Middleton and the two Alan’s, Charlton and Risby, with the latter pair accumulating a magnificent 40 points.

Hopefully our other team in this competition which is Captained by Jon Margrave can mirror Peter’s success which will give us a double presence in the regional quarter finals if they progress past Hainault on May 14th. No pressure Jon!

This competition is open to all members and teams are picked on form so if you’re interested please make your interest known to Peter or Jon.

Nearly every weekend in May has a major team competition or outside event going on and so please read the notice boards, club website or the table planners in the club for details.

Quiz night on Saturday April 30th

Hosted by your Vice Captain Kevin O Donoghue and Vice-Captain to be Richard Charsley, always a popular night so names down on the notice board please to avoid disappointment.

Mud Race for SANDS Sunday May 15th

Mark Arkell somehow has managed to persuade several club members including myself to enrol in a 6k Nuclear Mud Race on Sunday May 15th in aid of my charity SANDS.

If you wish you can sponsor us as a team by visiting our link which is or you can pledge a donation on the sponsorship sheet that’s pinned on the notice board by the TV in the club.

It’s for a great cause and if you want to see your Captain suffer this is definitely your opportunity, all spectators on the day welcome.

Soul Night 80’s Party on Saturday May 21st.

After the success of the New Year’s Party in January we hope this will be just as well attended, tickets on sale now from myself, £10 each, buffet included, guests welcome with Dave Dennick our DJ this time around.
Songs from your favourite artists so make a note of the date please.

That’s it from me for now, final words come from the Secretary and that’s to politely remind you our 2016 Club Subscriptions were due on April 1st and so if you are yet to pay them please contact Kevin or Bryan ASAP.
