We are in unprecedented times.
No, I don’t mean the pandemic. Chingford have won their first National Public Courses Trophy!
Having fought our way through 6 rounds of Match Play, Chingford’s Ballantyne Trophy team overpowered a strong team from Huntswood Golf Club in a close match at the luxurious but tricky Staverton Park GC course near Northampton.
The team for the final was made up of Messrs Alan Charlton, Paul Wilson, Gary Middleton and Gary Knight, Simon Bell and the very shy and reticent Paul Lovney! It would however be remiss of me not to mention the great contribution of Little Max who never lost a match in the earlier rounds but sadly had to shield during the final. Nasty fella that Mr Covid!
It was indeed a squad effort as we used a total of 12 players including, Brendan Kelly, Marky Arkell, Dickie Charsley, Mr Quiet Jimmy Hobley and even myself when we were very desperate.
We only had a three nil score once with every other round being a close finish, making the campaign all the more satisfying.
